Hydrangea cultivation methods and precautions

Hydrangea cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

Growing hydrangeas requires soil with high nutrient content and strong air permeability. It can be made by mixing leaf mold, garden soil, river sand and cake fertilizer in a ratio of 4:3:2:1, or by mixing leaf mold, sandy soil and cake fertilizer in a ratio of 6:3:1.

2. Lighting

Hydrangeas prefer shade to sun. It is best to move it to a semi-shaded place outdoors for maintenance in spring. It may need appropriate shade in summer. As the light gradually weakens in autumn, it should be placed in a bright place to promote flower bud differentiation. It can be placed in a sunny place indoors in winter.

3. Water

Hydrangeas like moisture but are afraid of waterlogging, so they need to be watered frequently but not too much at one time. Water more frequently in spring and summer, reduce watering appropriately after autumn, and reduce watering again after winter.

4. Temperature

The most suitable growth temperature for hydrangea is 18-28℃. In winter, you must pay attention to keeping warm and raise the temperature to above 5℃ to prevent it from being frostbitten.

5. Notes

1. Acidic soil. In addition to normal watering, you can also add one or two drops of salt-free vinegar to the water. This can lower the pH value of the soil and make the hydrangea grow better.

2. Prune in time. During its growing season, it is necessary to pinch the top of the tree to promote the growth of side branches, and it should be shortened before winter to help it survive the winter.
