Mint cultivation methods and precautions

Mint cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

Mint is highly adaptable to soil and can grow in any soil except soil that is too sticky or prone to waterlogging. However, it is best to choose fertile sandy soil that is relatively loose and has good drainage.

2. Water

Mint is tolerant to moisture but not drought. It needs more water to grow. The soil should be kept moist at ordinary times, but not too much water, otherwise it will be waterlogged. In winter, reduce the frequency and amount of watering.

3. Lighting

Mint is a long-day plant that likes sunlight. It usually needs to be exposed to light for a long time. If it is a potted plant, it should be moved to the south window in winter to receive sufficient light.

4. Temperature

Mint grows best at a temperature of 20-30°C. However, it has a very strong tolerance to low temperatures and can withstand temperatures as low as -15℃.

5. Notes

1. Apply fertilizer in time. Mint is a plant that likes fertilizer very much. It needs to be topdressed with fertilizer once a month during the growing period. It is best to use nitrogen fertilizer as the main fertilizer and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer as the supplement. This can provide it with more nutrients and allow it to grow better.

2. Prevent diseases and pests. During the seedling stage, mint is easily infected with black leg disease, which will cause the stems of mint to become soft and black, causing the plant to fall over and wither. Once this disease occurs, it can be treated by spraying seedlings with 70% thiophanate-methyl or 40% carbendazim.
