How to grow Dendrobium officinale?

Dendrobium officinale is an epiphytic plant. In its native environment, it generally grows on cool and moist tree trunks, so if we want to grow it well, we have to imitate the native environment.

Maintenance points:

1. Lighting

The first thing is light. Dendrobium officinale is particularly afraid of the sun. The first time I planted it, I treated it like a weed flower and left it in the sun, and it died.

Now I plant Dendrobium officinale in a sunny place without direct sunlight, and it grows particularly well! The leaves are green and the stems are very thick.

If it is on the balcony, you can plant it near the corner with soil or coarse coconut bran, so that you can get an environment similar to the original one. In sunny places, students with terraces can plant under tall plants.

2. Potting soil

What are epiphytes? That is to say, it depends on woody plants instead of being planted in mud. Therefore, when planting Dendrobium officinale, you can use broken wood, but never use mud.

The stems of Dendrobium officinale are fleshy. Are they afraid of water? We use chopped wood, which drains well, just don't let it collect water.

Is there any other way to avoid water accumulation besides using scrap wood? That is to choose a flower pot with good drainage. I use a pot for planting orchids, which has many drainage holes all around. If you use an ordinary flower pot, you can use scissors to make a few holes.

3. Watering

When watering, you must pay attention to two points: one is to water thoroughly, and the other is not to use tap water!

It is easy to understand that watering thoroughly is beneficial to the growth of the root system and can bring in fresh air when watering to prevent root rot.

The reason for not using tap water is that it contains residual chlorine, which is very bad for its growth. If conditions permit, use well water or rainwater. If there is no such thing, leave the tap water for two days to allow the chlorine to evaporate.

In the summer, because the weather is hot, it is easy to lack water, so I planted some moss on the surface. This can not only play a moisturizing role, but also look beautiful!

4. Fertilization

It is not recommended to use chemical fertilizers when planting Dendrobium officinale. Although using chemical fertilizers can make it grow faster, it will reduce its effective ingredients!

I usually use organic fertilizer, which is green, environmentally friendly and pollution-free. In spring and autumn, I will bury 10-20g of sheep manure on the surface of the flower pot. Sheep manure can slowly release nutrients for its growth, ensuring normal nutritional needs. Normally, you can use cake fertilizer mixed with water to water it.

How to pick Dendrobium officinale?

Everyone knows that Dendrobium officinale can be used as medicine, so how to pick it?

The annual growth of Dendrobium officinale is: new shoots grow from February to May, new roots grow from the new shoots in May, and flowers bloom from April to October. 10-In February of each year, the plant grows slowly to accumulate nutrients.

Therefore, if you want to pick them, you have to pick the branches after February of each year. However, the flowers of Dendrobium officinale can also be used as medicine, so I choose to pick them in March and April, so that I can use the stems as medicine and pick the flowers!

The picking method is also very simple, just use scissors to cut the branches one section away from the picture.
