The difference between Mirabilis jalapa and tuberose

The difference between Mirabilis jalapa and tuberose

1. Different appearance

Mirabilis jalapa: Its roots look relatively thick and strong, shaped like a cone, and are black or dark brown in color. The stem is erect, cylindrical in shape, with no hair or sparsely covered with fine hairs. Its leaves are oval in shape and have no hair on both sides. In addition, its flowers often grow in the form of several at the top, and their colors are purple, yellow, white or variegated. It is very ornamental.

Tuberose: It is a relatively weak shrub with many soft hairs on the twigs, which are yellow-green in color, and the old branches are gray-brown in color. The leaves are membranous and ovate-oblong in shape. Its inflorescence is umbrella-shaped and has 30 flowers, which are usually white and fragrant.

2. Different flowering times

The flowering time between them is different. Mirabilis jalapa usually blooms during the day, and the flowers are accompanied by fragrance when they bloom, which is very pleasant to smell. But tube-blooming jasmine, as its name suggests, usually blooms at night. Although it has a fragrance when it blooms, you should not smell it too often because the fragrance is poisonous. The fragrance of Mirabilis jalapa is not poisonous, so just looking at this point, there is a big difference between them.

3. Different effects

Although both of them can be used as medicine, their effects are different.

Mirabilis jalapa: Its roots and stems can be used for medicinal purposes, and have the effects of clearing away heat and detoxifying, promoting blood circulation and regulating menstruation. In addition, the white powder of its seeds can also remove acne on the face. It is precisely because of these effects that it is used to make a variety of medicines, which treat different diseases.

Tuberose: Its flowers are quite fragrant. Although it is poisonous, it has great value if used for medicinal purposes. For example. If its flowers and leaves are made into medicine, it can cleanse our liver and protect our eyes. There is a certain explanation for this as well. In South China, local people use it to treat conjunctivitis, eye diseases and other diseases, and the effect is very good.
