How to grow water lilies

How to grow water lilies

1. Planting method

1. When planting water lilies, the soil you choose should be fertile. You can plant them directly from the pond mud and silt in natural water bodies, or you can use soil from rice fields. If you don't have these soils, use ordinary garden soil with base fertilizer.

2. Plant the tubers of water lilies in the soil, with the top buds of the tubers slightly exposed from the soil. Add water after planting. Do not add too much water, just make the surface soil appear waterlogged. At this time, the soil becomes sticky and can be in close contact with the root system. After new roots grow from the tubers, the soil becomes very sticky and heavy. After adding water, the soil will not float up easily or become turbid.

3. As the leaves grow, keep raising the water level until the leaves float on the water. Generally speaking, for ordinary water lilies, the ideal height from the soil surface to the water surface is about 40-50 cm.

2. Maintenance conditions

1. Light: During maintenance, it must be in a full light environment. A shady environment will reduce flowering.

2. Fertilization: If you want to fertilize, be sure to apply the fertilizer to the mud. Do not spread the fertilizer into the water, because too much fertilizer in the water will cause excessive moss to grow.

3. Pests and diseases

1. Pests: A small number of aphids and leaf-eating pests will appear during maintenance. Once discovered, they should be washed with water in time, or they can be removed manually.

2. When caring for water lilies, there will sometimes be more mosquito larvae in the summer. We can raise two small fish in the water, such as mosquito fish, so that they can eat the mosquito larvae.
