The difference between Cassia bipoda and Cassia serrata

The difference between Cassia bipoda and Cassia serrata

1. Different plant morphology

1. Cassia tora: It is a small tree with luxuriant branches. It usually starts to branch out and reproduce very close to the ground. The branches are very small and grow in a very messy way. It usually has no main trunk. The bark is relatively smooth, and there are some fine soft hairs on the branches and leaves.

2. Yellow Sophora Cassia: It is an upright shrub, generally five to seven meters high. But its branches are hairless.

2. Different growth habits

1. Cassia tora: It has strong wind resistance, particularly strong germination ability, and a very developed root system. It is suitable for growing in slightly acidic or brick red soil with appropriate fertility.

2. Yellow Sophora Cassia: It is not wind-resistant, and cannot tolerate waterlogging and depressions. It does not have many requirements for soil. Generally, low and gentle slopes with similar fertility and roadsides can adapt to its growth.

3. Different flower shapes

1. Cassia bipoda: Its flowers contain ten stamens, seven of which are fertile, and the remaining three are degenerate and have no anthers. Of the seven fertile stamens, three are particularly large, taller than the petals, while the remaining four are shorter than the petals. Its flowering period is half from October to November, and the fruiting period is from November to March of the following year.

2. Cassia tora: Compared with Cassia tora, all ten stamens are fertile. Moreover, the flowers grown by yellow acacia are relatively large, and the petals are bright yellow or dark yellow. The flowering period is long, and it blooms almost all year round, with half of it concentrated from March to December.

4. Leaves and pods are different

1. Cassia tora: The leaves are relatively long, and the pods grow in pairs, and are round and long. Half of its compound leaves have three to four pairs of leaflets.

2. Cassia tora: The leaves are flat and oval. The number of leaflets in compound leaves is seven to nine pairs.

5. Different fruits

1. Cassia bipoda: Its fruit is columnar

2. Yellow Sophora Cassia: Its pods are flat.
