The difference between golden thread vine and silver thread vine

Morphological differences

Golden thread vine: Its height is between 8cm and 18cm; the leaves are between 1.3cm and 3.5cm long and about 0.8cm to 3cm wide; the upper side of the leaves is darker purple or black purple, while the back side is lighter purple-red; the length of the petiole is between 4mm and 10mm; the leaves have a clear network of veins made up of golden silk threads.

Silver thread vine: Its height is between 6 cm and 30 cm; the leaf length is between 3 cm and 8 cm, and the width is between 2 cm and 2.5 cm; the leaves are green on the top and grayish white on the back; the petiole length is between 1.5 cm and 2.5 cm; the leaves are composed of white fine lines forming a clear network of veins.

The leaves of silver thread vine are obviously much larger than those of golden thread vine, and the two plants can be clearly distinguished from their leaves. Let’s look at their other differences below.

Difference in flowering period

The flowering period of golden thread orchid is from September to November, and in some areas it is from August to December, with a longer flowering period. The flowering period of silver thread vine is from May to June, and can only last for 2 months at most. Moreover, the flowers of silver thread vine are much larger than those of golden thread orchid.

Difference in origin

Golden thread vine: It grows at altitudes between 50 and 1,600 meters, mostly in forests or beside streams in shady and humid places.

Silver thread vine: It grows at an altitude of 400 to 1500 meters, and also grows in places that are both shady and humid.

The planting range of golden thread vine is wider than that of silver thread vine.
