If you grow succulents like this, the leaves will be plump and red, and the roots will not rot for 10 years!

Only if you mix the soil for succulent plants like this can the roots not rot for 10 years!

The reason why succulents have strong drought resistance is that they have water-rich leaves and stems that can provide water in waterless seasons.

However, this also brings up a problem - it is rich in water. If the soil is too water-retaining or watering is improper, it can easily cause death due to excessive water.

Therefore, if you want to grow succulents well, you need to start with soil preparation!

Succulent plants are loved by flower lovers for their brilliant colors, strong drought resistance and simple management. This is a lazy plant that can grow very well without watering for months!

1. What are the types of soil preparation?

The soil for succulents can be divided into two categories: granular soil and peat coconut coir.

Granular soil is a general term for volcanic rock, chlorite, medical stone, Akadama, etc. They are a kind of mineral that can repel water, prevent root rot, and release trace elements.

I like to use volcanic rock and chlorite because they are cheap and affordable. Generally, volcanic rock: chlorite can be used in a ratio of 2:1.

Chlorite:

Volcanic rocks:

Peat and coconut bran is a mixture of peat and coconut bran. I use a mixture of peat and coconut bran in a ratio of 2:1. It can absorb nutrients and retain water.

2.How to prepare soil for succulents?

I live in Fujian, where the weather is hot and rainy in summer, and the planting environment is a terrace, so I need to prepare soil with very good drainage, and at this time I need to add more granular soil. Because granular soil drains water quickly, it avoids death from waterlogging.

In an environment like a balcony, water evaporates slowly, so granular soil should be added to the configuration.

My suggestion is a 2:1 ratio of granular soil: peat and coconut coir. This kind of soil has good drainage, so even if you accidentally overwater it, the water can be drained in time. If you are in the northern area with little precipitation, you can reduce the proportion of granular soil to 1:1 or 1:2 for planting.

This is how you grow succulents, so they will be plump and rosy!

I wonder if any flower lovers would say: Oh, why are other people’s succulents so beautiful, but mine are only green! In fact, it is because you don’t maintain it properly, so it is green!

If you want to grow succulents with brilliant colors, you can summarize it with a formula: temperature difference + water control + long daylight = brilliant colors. As long as you follow this formula to grow succulents, you can grow them beautifully even in Fujian~

1. Temperature difference

Temperature difference refers to the temperature difference between day and night. The greater the temperature difference, the easier it is for succulents to become beautiful. Generally, the temperature difference between day and night is large in autumn, winter and spring, so basically succulents can only have brilliant colors during this period. This is related to chlorophyll and chromoplasts, which involves cell microstructure and is not relevant to this article, so it will not be discussed here.

2. Water control

Water control means controlling watering. Succulent plants are native to South Africa, which has drought and little rain. Succulents have adapted to the local environment and can only grow beautifully in a dry environment, so water must be controlled!

So how do you control water? If you use the soil mixture like the one I mentioned above, you can water it once every half a month. When watering, it is best to do so in the afternoon on a sunny day, and be sure to water thoroughly. The moisture is controlled, and the succulents grow compactly and have high ornamental value.

When it rains, keep it out of the rain, otherwise it will easily get black rot after the heavy rain! If you cannot avoid the rain when it rains, dry the water off the leaves and keep them out of the sun for two days.

3. Long daylight hours (more than 5 hours)

The temperature is low in autumn, winter and spring, which provides succulents with long days. With the combined participation of temperature difference and water control, the synthesis of chlorophyll in succulents is slow, and the colored bodies will show brilliant colors.

At this time, place the succulents in the place with the best sunlight and wait quietly for it to "color"!

That’s all for today!
