Where do strawberry seeds come from?

When the strawberry receptacle swells, berries will form. This is the fruit of the strawberry. Many pistils are born on the raised receptacle. After fertilization, more seeds will be formed. In botany, it is also called aggregate fruit.

What do strawberry seeds look like?

Small fruits will grow from the ovary below the strawberry pistil, which are the "seeds" we usually see on the surface of the strawberry. The strawberry fruit is 3 cm in diameter, bright red in color, with pointed oval fruits and a very smooth surface.

Strawberry Seed Dispersal

Strawberry seeds are difficult to absorb. After animals eat them, they will be excreted from the body with feces and take root and sprout on the ground. Therefore, in the wild, strawberry seeds are mainly spread by animals and themselves, while artificially cultivated ones are spread by artificial cultivation.

How to get strawberry seeds

In the process of extracting strawberry seeds, first cut the fruit in half, put the seeds in the ovary together with the glue into a container, and ferment them indoors for two days. After adding a small amount of water and stirring, wash the glue clean and place it on gauze to dry, so that clean seeds can be obtained.

How to save strawberry seeds

Strawberries can be propagated by seeds, but strawberry seeds are relatively small, so it is meaningful to save seeds only from mature and plump strawberries. Strawberry seeds are on the surface of ripe strawberries. Those dots we see on the surface of the strawberry are the seeds.

We can remove the strawberry skin, then wrap it in cloth and rub it repeatedly in water. What remains in the cloth is the seeds. Then we can dry and preserve them. They can be sown when the sowing season comes, but the seeds reproduce relatively slowly.

Strawberry Seed Planting

1. Strawberry seed sowing time

1. Strawberries can be grown in greenhouses or in the open fields. If grown in a greenhouse, they can be sown all year round because the greenhouse can control temperature and humidity and provide the most suitable environment for strawberry cultivation.

2. If it is planted outdoors, it is best to choose to sow between early September and mid-October. The temperature and humidity during this period are suitable for the growth of strawberry seeds, which is conducive to improving their survival rate.

2. Strawberry seed growth process

Before planting strawberry seeds, they need to be soaked to germinate. Before planting, apply an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer in the soil as base fertilizer. After planting, keep the spacing at about 15 to 22 centimeters. When it grows 3 to 4 leaves, it can be transplanted. After planting, just keep the soil moist.

3. Strawberry seed planting method

Before sowing, you need to place the strawberry seeds in warm water at about 60 degrees Celsius and stir them slowly. When the water temperature drops to about 25 degrees Celsius, soak them for 2-3 hours. Take out the seeds, dry the water on the surface, and then place them in soaked gauze. This will effectively promote germination. When the seeds turn white, it means that the germination is successful and they can be sown.

Strawberry seeds are usually sown evenly on the prepared soil and then covered with a thin layer of soil. No fertilizer is needed when the strawberry seeds are first planted. Just provide sufficient light and keep the soil moist.
