Catnip cultivation methods and precautions

Catnip cultivation methods and precautions

Farming methods

soil

Catnip is suitable for planting in well-drained soil. The level of fertilization can be moderate. You can apply some slow-release fertilizer in moderation and apply thin liquid fertilizer once or twice a week. It is recommended to plant catnip in a pot of moderate size. The pot should not be too small, as it will affect its growth. The soil composition is one-third humus and two-thirds garden soil.

sowing

Catnip can be sown directly through seeds, 1-3 seeds can be planted in each hole. The seeds can be covered with vermiculite after sowing. If the temperature is between 18-22 degrees, it will germinate in 10-14 days. After sowing, avoid direct sunlight and place in the shade.

Germination method

You can prepare a tray, put soil in the tray, then put the seeds in the tray and spray some water evenly. Then place the tray in an incubator and adjust the incubator to 25 degrees. After 24 to 30 hours of constant temperature cultivation, the catnip will germinate.

Watering

Water it every day when the temperature is high in summer. Mint likes moisture, so control the water in winter. The suitable temperature for seed germination is 15-20℃, and the seed life is generally 1 year. The roots are sensitive to water, so waterlogging must be prevented and the soil in the pot must be completely dry between waterings.

illumination

Full sun is best; insufficient light will cause the plant to grow too tall.

Precautions for catnip cultivation

prune

Catnip has a strong climbing habit, so it is recommended to plant it in a flowerpot. However, catnip needs to be pruned from time to time. The more frequent the pruning, the better it will grow. It will also bloom small blue-purple flowers, so you need to be a hard-working gardener.

Pest control

Generally, catnip is not affected by diseases and pests, so there is no need to use pesticides. Just water it with fungicide once after transplanting.
