Orchid is a household flower. Its leaves are evergreen all year round and its flowers are very beautiful and elegant. Many people have potted plants of it at home. So how can we grow potted orchids well? Let’s learn more about it below. 1. Soil The soil for growing orchids must be pure natural, relatively fertile and loose. Natural humus soil is the best choice and is most suitable for the growth of orchids. This kind of humus soil has very good air permeability, and the soil is loose and very breathable. 2. Lighting Orchids should not be exposed to direct sunlight, so they are usually placed in a ventilated and cool place, outdoors in spring, summer and autumn, and a shade shed should be set up in summer. After transplanting the orchid, keep it in a shaded environment for 1 to 2 weeks. After the orchid's root system recovers, move it to a place with side light for management. 3. Temperature Generally, the temperature between 15 and 30 degrees is suitable for the growth of orchids. Orchids grow rapidly within this temperature range, and spring and autumn are mostly suitable for orchid growth under natural climate conditions, so if you place them directly outdoors in full sunlight in early autumn, you don’t have to worry about burns from strong sunlight or frostbite from the roots. 4. Watering Orchids prefer dryness and dislike moisture, so they must not be watered too much. In summer, they should be watered in the early morning or evening, but the amount of water should not be too large. Orchids can be exposed to light rain, but they should avoid plum rains, showers or continuous rain to prevent them from being too wet and causing wilting. The soil in the pot should be kept moist in autumn, but not too wet in winter. Orchids need more water during the growing season, less water during the leaf bud stage, and even less or no water during the dormant period. If the pot is large and the plant is small, water less, and if the pot is small and the plant is large, water more. 5. Fertilization During the growth period of orchids, you can supplement them with some fertilizers containing nitrogen. When it is about to bloom, you can add more phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer, so that the flower buds will bloom earlier and the flowering time will be longer. 6. Pruning When pruning, the main thing is to prune away the withered branches to avoid absorbing too much nutrients. After pruning, we also need to disinfect the roots. It is best to choose a fungicide with strong systemic properties and dilute it with clean water before spraying. 7. Ventilation Orchids have certain requirements for the environment. They need to be ventilated frequently to promote air circulation and flow. Even when they are grown outdoors, frequent ventilation is no exception. 8. Repotting Orchids usually need to be repotted every 2-3 years. During the growth process of orchids, as the plants grow and develop, the original nutrients in the soil in the pot have been basically consumed. In order not to affect the growth and development of orchids, potted orchids usually need to be repotted every 2-3 years. That’s it |
