What is the difference between Dutch chrysanthemum and aster?

Different morphological characteristics

Aster is mainly distributed in the north of my country, including Inner Mongolia, Hebei and the three northeastern provinces; abroad, Aster is also distributed in Korea, Japan, and Russia's Far East. Aster can grow to a height of more than two meters, and its base leaves are rectangular or elliptical-spoon-shaped. The inflorescence of Aster is arranged in a compound umbel shape.

The name of Dutch chrysanthemum abroad is New Bi Aster. Since China introduced this population from Europe, we call it Dutch chrysanthemum. There are many varieties of chrysanthemums. The height of its plants is generally 50 to 80 cm, with clustered stems, oblong or lanceolate leaves, and the leaf base slightly clasps the stem. Inflorescence capitulate, dense or clustered into corymbs. The colors of the chrysanthemum flowers range from red, blue-purple, light blue to white.

Different flowering periods

Aster blooms in autumn and its corolla is blue-purple. The flowering period of chrysanthemum is between August and October. Some varieties of chrysanthemum bloom in both spring and autumn, making them more suitable for potted plants.

Easy to confuse

There are nearly 500 species in the genus Aster, generally referred to as Aster. Some people think that calling the Newbie Aster "Dutch Daisy" is not very appropriate, so they just call the Newbie Aster "Aster". However, the name of Dutch chrysanthemum has been widely circulated among the people and is more easily accepted by users. Therefore, in practice, some traders call the new Aster "Dutch Chrysanthemum", and also call all Aster species that can be cultivated for ornamental purposes "Dutch Chrysanthemum", thus confusing the two.
