How to care for Epiphyllum in winter

How to care for Epiphyllum in winter

Is Epiphyllum afraid of cold?

If kept outdoors in winter, Epiphyllum will freeze to death. The most suitable temperature for its growth is between 13-20 degrees, so in winter, the plant needs to be moved to a warm environment in time.

Epiphyllum cannot stand the cold, so it needs to be moved indoors in time for maintenance in winter. It is best to keep the temperature above 10 degrees Celsius so that it can safely survive the winter. If there is no heating equipment in the room, you can cover it with plastic film to keep it warm.

Winter care methods for Epiphyllum

1. Lighting

The sunlight is not strong in winter, so you can place the Epiphyllum directly in a sunny place indoors to ensure sufficient light. In other seasons, special attention should be paid to shading and maintenance.

2. Temperature

Epiphyllum likes a humid and warm environment, so it needs to be moved indoors in time for maintenance in winter, and the temperature must be kept above 5℃ so that the plant can survive the winter safely.

3. Watering

In winter, you can add an appropriate amount of water to the Epiphyllum, but not too much. Generally speaking, watering it once every half a month or so is enough. At this time, the root system's ability to absorb water is weak, and too much water will cause rot.

Precautions for winter cultivation of Epiphyllum

There are many taboos when raising Epiphyllum at home. Do not place it in unventilated closed rooms such as study rooms and computer rooms, otherwise it will cause diseases and insect pests to the Epiphyllum. Open windows frequently for ventilation.

In the winter in the north, the temperature of Epiphyllum should be controlled between 15-22 degrees, not lower than 10 degrees, and the lighting conditions must be guaranteed. It is best to have at least four hours of light a day to help it survive the winter safely.
