The difference between sea daffodils and hydrangeas

Introduction to Sea Daffodil and Weigela

The sea daffodil and the hydrangea belong to the Caprifoliaceae family. The sea daffodil is a species of the genus Weigela in the Caprifoliaceae family. Both have a very long flowering period, sometimes up to several months, and are suitable for group planting and cannot grow in an overly waterlogged environment. It is often used as embellishment and decoration of rockery and artificial rocks. It has strong germination ability and grows very fast. In addition, as a traditional Chinese medicinal material, sea daffodil has the effect of clearing away heat and detoxifying.

Difference 1: Flower color

Weigela is a dwarf shrub with red and pink flowers.

Sea daffodils are trees, some of which can grow up to four or five meters tall. Because red, white and pink flowers bloom on the same branch and the colors change gradually, just like five colors, it is also called the five-color crabapple.

Difference 2: The calyx lobes of the flower

Since the flowers of these two plants are very similar, in order to distinguish them, there is a simple saying in garden arboriculture: "Weigela is half-spotted, while Nymphéensis is spotted to the bottom." This means that the calyx lobes of Weigela are connected from the middle downwards, while the calyx lobes of Nymphéensis are directly split from the top to the bottom. Using this saying, it is easy to identify these two plants during the flowering period.

Difference 3: Seed shape

The seeds of the sea daffodil have wings, while the seeds of the hydrangea are wingless, so observing the seeds can also be used as a way to identify these two flowers.
