How to grow fig trees

How to grow fig trees

Basic needs for fig growth

Lighting conditions

The weeping fig likes an environment with plenty of sunlight, so place it in a bright place, but avoid direct sunlight. When bathed in sunlight, the leaf flesh will become very shiny, but insufficient light will cause the leaves to become soft, droop, and look sickly.

Moisture conditions

The weeping fig likes a high humidity environment and is afraid of dryness. During its vigorous growth stage, you should water it frequently and spray water on the leaves and surrounding areas frequently to keep the soil and plants moist, so that the leaves will be shiny and the plants will grow better. In winter, wait until the soil in the pot is completely dry before watering, and it should not be too wet.

Temperature requirements

The weeping fig prefers a high temperature environment. The most suitable temperature for its growth is 15℃--30℃. It is relatively cold-resistant, but it is best not to be lower than 5℃ in winter to prevent frost damage.

Soil requirements

The weeping fig prefers fertile, well-drained soil and is suitable for cultivation in a mixed soil rich in humus, which can be a mixture of compost and peat soil in the same proportions. Add a little base fertilizer as base fertilizer.

Precautions for the maintenance of weeping fig

Basin selection and replacement

The size of the flowerpot should be selected according to the size of the plant. In order to make it look beautiful, 3 seedlings can be planted in each pot. Generally, large potted plants can be repotted every 2 to 3 years, while small ones may need to be repotted once every April.

Reasonable fertilization

During the growing season, liquid fertilizer composed mainly of nitrogen fertilizer and supplemented with potassium fertilizer can be applied once every two weeks to supplement the nutrients needed for growth.

Tips for pruning

The weeping fig is not afraid of pruning at all, can be changed into various shapes, and is also easy to survive.

Methods of reproduction

The propagation of fig trees is generally done by cuttings or high pressure method. When taking cuttings in spring and summer, cut 10-15 cm strong branches, leaving only 1-2 leaves on the upper part, and insert them into river sand to keep them moist. For high-pressure propagation in summer, choose thick side branches with good shape, peel the stems in a ring shape with a width of 0.5-1 cm, and then wrap them with moist sphagnum moss. They will take root in less than a month.

This is all I have to say about the cultivation methods of the weeping fig. I hope it will be helpful to you.
