How to care for tulips, methods and techniques for growing tulips

1. Loose soil

Tulips are bulbous plants, and their bulbs are afraid of humid environments, so the soil must be loose and have good drainage. It is usually prepared with a mixture of garden soil, leaf mold and sand, which can provide a good growing environment. To provide nutrients, you can also add chicken manure or compost to the soil as base fertilizer.

2. Sufficient light

Tulips are long-day flowers and require sufficient light to grow. They should be placed in sunny places. If there is insufficient light, the plant will become weak, with long stems but small flowers, and may also become infertile. It should be noted that the bulbs should not be exposed to light when they have just sprouted, so as not to inhibit the development of the plants.

3. Watering control

Tulips have a greater demand for water after just one week of planting and need to be watered sufficiently. When it sprouts, the water requirement will decrease, and the amount of watering should be controlled, especially during the flowering period. Do not water too much. Generally, water in small amounts and multiple times. If the environment is too dry, the growth rate of the plant will slow down. Usually the ambient humidity should be kept at around 80%.

4. Apply fertilizer in time

In addition to applying base fertilizer when tulips are potted, top dressing should also be applied appropriately during the growth process. First, apply liquid fertilizer after two leaves grow. Usually 1-2 times is enough. During its peak growth season, compound fertilizer should be applied 3-4 times a month to fully supplement nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium elements, but fertilizer should be stopped during the flowering period. After the flowers fade, add 1-2 doses of potassium dihydrogen phosphate.
