Cultivation methods and precautions of Lilium

How to cultivate Lilium

Soil selection

Tiger lily likes fertile, humus-rich soil with good drainage, and acidic soil is preferred. You can mix leaf mold, garden soil and sand to make soil. When planting in pots, in addition to the prepared medium, you can also put decomposed fertilizer or bone meal as base fertilizer. Before potting the soil, it needs to be disinfected.

Light and temperature

Light is a necessary condition for the growth of Fritillaria lily. Only with reasonable light can Fritillaria lily grow well and bloom beautifully without affecting its viewing. Fritillaria requires sufficient light. Insufficient light will cause the Fritillaria plant to grow poorly. Generally, the lighting conditions in spring and autumn are sufficient for the growth of Fritillaria, but in winter when the daylight hours are shorter, artificial lighting is generally required. In the summer when the temperature is high and the sun is strong, you can use a shade net to avoid direct sunlight.

Temperature control is also very important. Fritillaria prefers a warm environment, and the suitable temperature for its growth is between 16℃ and 28℃. It is afraid of high temperatures but is relatively cold-resistant. However, the temperature for wintering should not be lower than 2℃.

Watering and fertilizing

Fritillaria prefers a dry climate and is afraid of moisture, so watering is required appropriately. Generally, just keep the soil in the pot moist, but during the growth period and when it is relatively dry, you need to water it more. When the air is too dry, you need to spray water around the plants frequently to increase the air humidity.

Fritillaria does not have high requirements for fertilizer. It needs to supplement nutrients during the growing period to ensure growth, and appropriate fertilizer should be applied in the early stage of flowering to ensure the quality of flowering. During the growth period, you can apply thin liquid fertilizer 2-3 times. In the early stage of flowering, you can apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers 1-2 times.

Things to note when growing Fritillaria

Repotting

In order to make the Fritillaria grow better, it is necessary to change the pot once a year and replace it with new soil. The time for changing the pot can be in October. And the flowerpot should be rotated frequently during the growth period of the Fritillary Lily to prevent it from growing crooked.

Pests and diseases

The main diseases of Lilium are gray mold, damping-off and rust.
