How to grow Strelitzia

How to grow Strelitzia

Farming methods

temperature

Strelitzia reginae is not cold-resistant. The most suitable growth temperature is 15-25℃, and it will stop growing below 8℃. When the temperature in winter is not lower than 4℃, it can be placed in a sunny place facing south and facing north, with less watering, and overwintering in the open field. In the north, the flowers should be moved indoors or into a plastic greenhouse to overwinter.

illumination

Strelitzia reginae likes light. If there is insufficient light, it will easily lead to poor plant growth and affect flowering, so attention must be paid to light.

prune

To improve the quality of flower buds, remove old leaves, diseased leaves and useless flowering and fruiting branches in time.

Watering

Strelitzia reginae is afraid of waterlogging. It should have sufficient water during the summer growth period and the autumn and winter flowering period. After flowering in early spring, watering should be reduced appropriately. In summer, water the plants once a day. Use a spray bottle to spray clean water on the leaves and the surrounding ground in the morning and evening to increase the air humidity. Reduce watering in winter and keep the soil slightly dry. If you let it continue to grow, you should water it more often.

Fertilization

Strelitzia likes fertilizer, and appropriate amounts of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be added to the soil. During the growing season, active humic acid liquid fertilizer should be applied every two weeks or so.

Precautions

Different seasons with different light

In spring and autumn, the flower pots should be placed in a sunny place, while in winter they should receive more sunlight, otherwise it will directly affect the growth of leaves and the color of flowers. However, because the sunlight is too strong in summer, the plant should be placed under a shade to prevent the leaves from being burned by the sun and affecting its ornamental value.

Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are mainly used in autumn and winter

In autumn and winter, the main fertilizers for Strelitzia reginae are phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Applying potassium dihydrogen phosphate mixed with water to the roots can make the plant grow strong and have more and larger flowers.

Change pots frequently

Strelitzia is a large potted ornamental flower that grows fast and has a well-developed root system. Generally, the seedlings should be repotted and the soil changed once a year, and after the plants are formed, the pots and soil should be changed every 2 to 3 years, and the plants should be divided in spring.
