The difference between elmleaf plum and peach

Different families

Prunus armeniaca is a plant of the genus Prunus in the Rosaceae family, while Prunus persica is a plant of the genus Prunus in the Rosaceae family.

Prunus armeniaca has been cultivated in China for hundreds of years and is planted in most parks across the country. This species blooms early and is mainly for viewing. Common cultivated types include the double-petaled plum, also known as small peach red, because its leaves resemble elm leaves and its flowers resemble plum blossoms.

The peach tree, also known as the Thousand-Leaf Peach Blossom, is a variant of the peach tree. It belongs to the semi-double and double varieties of ornamental peach flowers, collectively known as the peach tree. Common varieties include red flowers and green leaves peach, red flowers and red leaves peach, white and red double-color gold-sprinkled peach and many other variants. The peach tree has a high ornamental value and is a beautiful plant that can be seen everywhere in communities, parks, and streets.

Different branches

The branches of the plum are brown and rough, while the twigs of the peach are reddish brown and hairless. The branches of the peach are more vigorous than those of the plum.

Different leaves

The leaves of the elmleaf plum are broadly elliptical to obovate, with a pointed or three-lobed tip, a broad cuneate base, and varying degrees of coarse serrations on the edges.

The leaves of the peach tree are elliptical-lanceolate, 7-15 cm long, and gradually pointed at the tip.

Different flowers

The flowers of Prunus armeniaca are only pink, not white, while the flowers of Prunus persica come in a variety of colors, including red, pink, purple, white, etc.

The flowering period of Prunus armeniaca is slightly earlier than that of Prunus persica.

Different growth habits

Prunus armeniaca is a temperate tree species that is cold-resistant and drought-resistant and likes sunlight. It is not very demanding on soil, but it is not waterlogged and prefers neutral to slightly alkaline soil.

The peach tree also likes sunlight and is drought-resistant, but its cold resistance is not as good as that of the elmleaf plum. The soil for growth should be fertile, loose and well-drained.
