Cultivation methods and precautions of Chlorophytum comosum

Cultivation methods and precautions of Chlorophytum comosum

Farming methods

Light and temperature

Chlorophytum comosum prefers a semi-shady environment and needs plenty of sunlight during its growth. But be aware that if the light is too strong or insufficient, the leaves will easily become lighter and yellower. When the sun is strong in summer, pay attention to shade to avoid burns to the plants. In winter, it is important to keep the insects exposed to light to prevent the leaves from becoming lighter in color due to insufficient light.

Chlorophytum comosum prefers a warm and humid climate and is not cold-resistant. The suitable growth temperature is 20 to 24℃. If the temperature is too high, the leaves will turn yellow and dry easily. Pay attention to cooling and ventilation in summer. The temperature is low in winter, so it is necessary to maintain a certain wintering temperature, not lower than 5℃.

Water and fertilizer management

Chlorophytum comosum can grow vigorously in spring and autumn, so it needs sufficient watering and the potting soil should always be kept moist, but not waterlogged. In the hot summer, spray frequently to increase humidity, and in the autumn, gradually reduce the amount of watering.

During the peak growing season, Chlorophytum comosum can be fertilized with thin liquid fertilizer once every half a month, but top dressing should be stopped in winter.

Pruning and repotting

The thousand-leaf spider plant grows very fast. As time goes by, the plant will soon be able to grow vigorously. In order to maintain a good plant shape, it is necessary to shape it frequently and cut off the branches that affect the plant shape to keep the plant beautiful. Pruning can also sprout many new branches, making the plant shape fuller.

Because Chlorophytum comosum grows fast and easily fills the pot, it should be repotted every two years. The best time to repot is spring. The potting soil should be sandy soil that is rich in humus, loose and fertile, and has good drainage and air permeability.

Breeding precautions

Pest control

Common diseases of Chlorophytum comosum include scale insect damage and root rot.

Reproduction method

The propagation of thousand-leaf spider plant can be combined with repotting and division. Generally, one plant can be divided into two to several clumps. You can also cut off branches for cuttings, or use small plants on runners for propagation.

Chlorophytum comosum can also be sown by seeds, but it is generally rarely used.
