How to grow saxifrage

Farming methods

soil

The best soil for potted saxifrage is sandy soil rich in organic matter, and it must also have good drainage. It can be made by mixing homemade culture soil with river sand.

Temperature and light

Temperature: Saxifrage likes a warm environment. The most suitable growth temperature is between 15℃ and 25℃. Saxifrage is also relatively cold-resistant and can survive the winter in as low as 5℃.

However, the variegated variety of tricolor saxifrage is not cold-resistant. The wintering temperature is 15℃. If the temperature is lower than this, it will die. Therefore, keeping warm in winter is also very necessary.

Light: If there is insufficient light, the leaf color will become dull. Indoors, shade is also needed in summer to avoid direct sunlight. Keep the room temperature above 5℃ in winter. Place it in a sunny place near the south window indoors.

Water and fertilizer management

Watering: During the growth period of Saxifrage, water it abundantly to make the soil in the pot fully moist, but do not let the flowerpot be immersed in water. In the two weeks after the plant blooms, gradually reduce the amount of watering. When the plant enters a dormant state, it only needs the soil in the pot to remain dry.

Water the plant during the growing period and keep the soil in the pot moist. A slight drought can cause the leaves to fall off. At the same time, prevent water accumulation in the pot, otherwise the roots will easily rot.

Fertilization: Fertilizer needs to be applied from under the leaves of Saxifrage to avoid contaminating the leaves and affecting the growth of the plant. During the peak growth period in spring, apply nitrogen fertilizer every 20 days. No fertilizer is applied during high temperatures in summer or low temperatures in winter.

Reproduction method

Saxifrage can be propagated by sowing and division. Sowing is done in March and April, and division can be done in all seasons, but spring and autumn are the best seasons.

Precautions for raising saxifrage

Repotting

Saxifrage likes loose and breathable soil. Compacted soil can easily make the leaves dull in color. Therefore, the pot should be changed every other year in early spring.

Pests and diseases

The main diseases are gray mold and powdery mildew.

Insect pests may include mealybugs and whiteflies.

In daily maintenance, you should always pay attention and stay vigilant to take care of the beautiful Saxifrage, just like protecting beautiful love.
