Soil and pot requirements

The soil for potted plants at home is different from that for plants grown in the field. You should choose loose and fertile soil. In northern regions, acidic soil should be selected. If the soil is alkaline, it should be treated before use. Although lupine has a relatively developed root system, its requirements for soil cannot be neglected.

It takes a month for lupine to grow from a seedling to a mature plant. It is best to choose a deeper flowerpot to promote root growth.

Sowing method

Lupine is mostly sown in spring and autumn.

If sown in spring, the seeds will germinate quickly and enter a vigorous growth period in summer. However, the temperature in summer is high and the environment is hot and humid. The hot weather will inhibit the growth of lupine, resulting in reduced flowering, fewer inflorescences, and poor ornamental effects.

Sow in autumn and keep indoors in winter to ensure suitable temperature. It will grow rapidly, bloom early and grow well, and will bloom in April or June of the following year.

Daily maintenance

For foreign wild species like lupine, they are not as delicate as domestic flowers. They will not die if they are watered frequently and not fertilized. As long as they are not overdone, lupine will grow well.

During the growth period of lupine, cut off the dead flowers and leaves in time, pay attention to shade, and ensure that the lupine spends the summer safely. There are basically no other major problems.

Breeding precautions

Cool environment

Lupine is a perennial plant that prefers a relatively cool environment. In the hot summer, pay attention to shade to avoid leaves being burned by the scorching sun. If you find the leaves turning yellow, remove them immediately.

Cold protection

Lupine has a certain degree of cold resistance, but it is always above 0℃. Before wintering, move the potted plants to a warm place indoors in time and control the temperature above 5℃ to avoid frostbite on the leaves.
