Cultivation methods and precautions of red peony

How to grow red peony

Light temperature

The red peony prefers full sun. When the light is too strong, provide adequate shade at noon to prevent the sphere from getting burned. It needs sufficient sunlight in winter. If there is not enough light, it will become dim.

Flower pot selection

There are two things to pay attention to when choosing a flower pot.

You can choose clay pots or ceramic pots, but clay pots are the best.

Regarding the size of the flower pot, the red peony should be planted in a pot with a diameter 1 to 2 cm larger than the bulb.

soil

The red peony uses sandy soil containing lime and good drainage.

You can add coal slag (or volcanic rock), leaf mold, sand, garden soil, etc.

The soil should be fresh and disinfected after preparation to kill insect eggs.

Watering

The red peony likes moist soil and is drought-resistant.

Spring, summer and autumn are the growing seasons for the red peony. Spray water on the sphere once every 1 to 2 days.

In late autumn, winter and early spring, the red peony is in a semi-dormant state. Strictly control watering to keep the soil in the pot dry but not too dry. After the soil in the pot is completely dry, just water it lightly.

It starts to grow after the temperature rises in spring, and you can gradually increase the amount of watering to keep the soil moist.

When the temperature is hot in summer, growth stagnates, and water should be applied when the soil is dry or wet.

Fertilization

The red peony does not require high fertilizer requirements, but a certain supply of nutrients should be guaranteed. Fertilize once a month during the growing season.

Precautions for breeding of red peony

Reproduction method

It is propagated by grafting, which is carried out in spring and early summer, and the common rootstock is Osmanthus fragrans.

Pest control

The main diseases and pests of red peony are stem rot, brown spot disease, red spider mites, scale insects, etc. Take preventive measures.
