How to raise Cameo

How to raise Cameo

Cameo breeding method

Cameo lighting requirements

Cameo likes a warm, humid and sunny environment. Can be maintained in full sun. When there is sufficient light or the temperature difference increases, the leaves will turn red, making them bright and colorful.

Cameo water and fertilizer management

Watering: The soil in the pot should not be too wet during the growth period of Cameo, and watering once a week is sufficient. Water once a month in winter and keep the soil in the pot dry. When the air is dry, you can sprinkle water around the plants to increase the air humidity. But do not water the leaves or the center of the leaves, otherwise the leaves will easily rot and affect the growth of the plant.

Fertilization: Fertilize once a month during the growing season, using diluted cake fertilizer water or special organic fertilizer.

Cameo reproduction method

Cuttings: In spring, cut mature leaves and insert them into the sand bed. They will take root after 3 weeks and can be potted after young plants grow out. Be careful to cut the leaves quickly and decisively, and make sure the cut is flat. Wait until the wound dries naturally before grafting.

Division: Cameo division requires certain conditions. Many daughter plants sprout from the base of the 2-3 year old mother plant. At this time, the plant can be propagated by division in spring.

Cameo domestic matters needing attention

Common pests and diseases in Cameo: root-knot nematodes and rust.

Cameo needs to be repotted once a year to prevent the soil from becoming compacted and causing poor plant growth. When repotting, choose a mixture of peat and coarse sand as the potting soil, and add a small amount of bone meal or organic fertilizer.
