Why are the leaves of Bougainvillea turning yellow and falling off?

Bougainvillea has become a favorite in the homes of many flower lovers with its colorful colors and diverse varieties. However, during the maintenance process, flower lovers sometimes encounter the problem of bougainvillea leaves turning yellow and falling off, which is undoubtedly troublesome. So why do bougainvillea leaves turn yellow and fall off?

1. Reasonable watering

Watering is the key to caring for bougainvillea. Too much or too little water can cause yellowing leaves. The frequency of watering should be adjusted according to the season: water once a day in spring and autumn, twice a day in summer, and reduce watering in winter to keep the soil slightly moist.

2. Adequate lighting

Bougainvillea requires full sunlight for efficient photosynthesis. Lack of light can cause yellowing of leaves. Except for the seedling stage, bougainvillea should be placed in a sunny place, especially in winter, ensuring at least 8 to 9 hours of sunlight per day.

3. Soil drainage

Poorly drained soil can cause water to accumulate, which can lead to root diseases and yellowing leaves. Choosing soil with good air permeability and strong drainage, such as a mixture of garden soil and leaf mold, can effectively avoid the problem of waterlogging.

4. Disease prevention and control

Diseases such as leaf spot may also cause the leaves of bougainvillea to turn yellow. Once the disease is discovered, the diseased leaves should be cut off immediately and disinfectant should be sprayed to prevent the spread of the disease.

In general, the problem of yellowing bougainvillea leaves is not difficult to solve. The key is to find the cause and take corresponding measures. Yellowing leaves can be effectively avoided or reduced through reasonable watering, light management, soil selection and disease control.
