How long does it take for Schlumbergera cuttings to take root? Tips for Schlumbergera cuttings

1. How long does it take for cuttings to take root?

The most commonly used method of propagating Christmas cactus is cutting, which is very simple and has a high survival rate. How long it takes to take root depends on the specific method of cuttings and the management after cutting. Under normal circumstances, roots will take shape between two to three weeks after cutting. Some times will be shorter, some longer.

2. Tips for cuttings

1. Cutting time: It is best to carry out cuttings in spring or autumn when the climate is more suitable and the survival rate will naturally be higher. Specifically, it is between March and May in spring and September and October in autumn.

2. Leaf processing: Select leaves that are strong, thick, and do not have complete nodes. There should be about two or three nodes in a section. Too few nodes will affect rooting and the rooting speed will be slowed down. After cutting, place the wound in a cool place to dry. Do not bury it directly in the soil, otherwise the wound will easily become infected.

3. Suitable substrate: It has high requirements for the substrate, which must be breathable and loose. It is recommended to use a mixture of leaf mold and river sand, which allows better breathing after planting and is beneficial to rooting.

4. Maintenance after cutting: After cutting, place it in a dark place first, and don't rush to expose it to the sun. Normally, you need to water the plant every three to five days, but not too much each time. Just keep the substrate slightly moist. Such an environment will allow the plant to take root faster and increase the survival rate.
