Growth period

Ornithogalum likes sunlight but is afraid of strong light. In late autumn, winter and early spring, because the temperature is not very high, it is necessary to give it direct sunlight to facilitate photosynthesis and the formation of flower buds, flowering and fruiting. If it is hot weather or in summer, it needs to block about 50% of the sunlight.

After the flowers fade

After flowering, it should be placed indoors for viewing and care, near a southeast-facing door or window, to extend the flowering period and increase the number of flowers as much as possible.

Temperature and humidity

Ornithogalum prefers a cool, dry air environment. It is afraid of extreme heat and has difficulty surviving the summer; it is not resistant to frost and will go into dormancy when the temperature drops below 10℃. The most suitable growth temperature is 15-28℃. If the rainy days are too long, it is easy to be infected by germs. Afraid of rain, keep the leaves dry at night. The optimum relative air humidity is 40-65%.

Water and fertilizer requirements

Growing season

Spring and autumn are its peak growth seasons, and the fertilizer and water management should follow the cycle of "light fertilizer" - "light fertilizer" - clean water - "light fertilizer" - "light fertilizer" - clean water (at least twice a week should be guaranteed). The interval period is approximately: 1 to 4 days for outdoor maintenance, with a shorter interval on sunny days or high temperatures, and a longer interval or no watering on rainy days or low temperatures; 2 to 6 days for indoor maintenance, with a shorter interval on sunny days or high temperatures, and a longer interval or no watering on rainy days or low temperatures.

Slow growing season

Summer is a season of slow growth, so it is necessary to control fertilizer and water appropriately. Fertilizer and water management follows the cycle of "light fertilizer" - clean water - clean water - "light fertilizer" - clean water - clean water, and the interval period is approximately: 1 to 4 days for outdoor maintenance, with shorter intervals on sunny days or high temperatures, longer intervals or no watering on rainy days or low temperatures; 2 to 6 days for indoor maintenance, with shorter intervals on sunny days or high temperatures, longer intervals or no watering on rainy days or low temperatures. Water in the morning or evening when the temperature is low, and mist the plants frequently. Try to schedule watering in the morning when the temperature is lower.

Dormant period

Winter is the dormant period of Ornithogalum, and the main thing is to control fertilizer and water. Fertilizer and water management should follow the cycle of "light fertilizer" - clean water - clean water - "light fertilizer" - clean water - clean water. The interval period is about 7 to 10 days. The interval period is shorter on sunny days or during high temperatures, and longer or no watering on rainy days or low temperatures. Try to arrange watering at noon on sunny days when the temperature is higher.

Pests and diseases

The disease of Ornithogalum is mosaic disease, the virus is spread by aphids, and it can be controlled by spraying 800 times diluted 2.5% dervine essence.
