How to grow Daphne odora in winter

How to grow Daphne odora in winter

1. Breeding conditions

1. Soil: It likes nutritious, well-permeable acidic loam. Heavy alkaline soil will not play a good role in its growth and development.

2. Light: It likes a warm environment but does not like direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to excessively strong sunlight or low temperatures will cause the flowers to wither. The environment must also be kept breathable during daily maintenance.

3. Watering: Observe the leaves when watering. If they are upright, it means the water and fertilizer are normal. If the leaves droop, it means you are watering too much or too frequently. If the roots rot due to excessive watering, you should open them up in time, cut off the rotten roots, clean them with fungicide, and replant them.

4. Fertilization: After autumn, you should control the application of fertilizers, and apply them in small amounts but frequently until the flowers bloom. Before the flowers are formed, use phosphorus fertilizer as the main fertilizer. After the flowers are formed, you can change to potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution and spray it on the leaves, both sides.

2. Breeding Methods

1. Leaf cuttings: During the growing season, cut the stronger branches from the mother plant and place them flat on moist soil. They will generally take root in about 15 days. After taking root, continue to keep the soil moist.

2. Seeds: Sowing is generally chosen in spring, and the sowing environment is controlled at around 20°C. The seeds are planted in the prepared acidic soil, covered with a film, keeping the soil moist, placed in a sunny place, and the film is opened for ventilation for two hours every day.

3. Pest and disease control

Osmanthus fragrans is very susceptible to mosaic disease, which can cause a large number of flowers to fall off. It should be sprayed with medicine in time when the disease is discovered to avoid plant death.
