In the process of potato planting, fertilization is an important part of management. Reasonable fertilization management is the key to ensure high yield and quality. Scientific fertilization can not only promote the healthy growth of potato plants, but also significantly increase yields. So what kind of fertilizer can be used to grow potatoes for high yields? Let’s learn more about it below. 1. Base fertilizer Base fertilizer is fertilizer applied to the soil before or during potato planting. Its main purpose is to provide sufficient nutrients for the early growth of potatoes. Generally speaking, it is more appropriate to apply 2000-3000 kg of decomposed farmyard manure per mu, combined with about 50-75 kg of compound fertilizer . The specific application amount needs to be adjusted according to local actual conditions. 2. Fertilizer Seed fertilizer refers to the application of fertilizer before the potato planting season to provide sufficient nutrients for potato seeds and promote seed germination and seedling growth. Generally speaking, applying 20-30 kg of nitrogen fertilizer, 20-30 kg of phosphorus fertilizer, and 10-15 kg of potassium fertilizer per mu of land can meet the nutrient needs of potato seedlings. 3. Apply fertilizer in stages (1) Top dressing during the seedling stage: After the potato seedlings emerge from the soil, usually when the seedlings have 3 to 5 leaves. 10-15 kg of urea can be applied per mu. (2) Tuber formation period: 10-20 kg of potassium dihydrogen phosphate or compound fertilizer can be applied per mu, and trace elements can be supplemented in appropriate amounts based on soil test results. (3) Flowering period: Apply 10-15 kg of diammonium phosphate and potassium sulfate per mu. In areas in the north where the soil is deficient in phosphorus, additional phosphorus fertilizer can be applied. 4. Foliar spraying After the potatoes bloom, you can reduce root fertilization and focus on foliar spraying. Foliar fertilizers should be mainly potassium and phosphorus fertilizers. Generally, 50 kg of 0.3%-0.5% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution is sprayed on the leaves per acre of land. Foliar fertilizer should be sprayed every 10-15 days, and sprayed 2-3 times continuously. 5. Foliar fertilization Foliar fertilizer should be applied according to the soil fertility and the growth conditions of potatoes to promote rapid growth of potatoes. Foliar fertilization mainly consists of high-potassium fertilizers. Generally, it is sufficient to apply fertilizer twice when watering after the potatoes bloom. In general, the fertilization work for potato planting should adjust the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium according to different growth stages, and attention should also be paid to the supplementation of trace elements. The specific amount and concentration of fertilizer should be adjusted according to local soil conditions and the specific needs of the potato variety.
