Cultivation methods and precautions of American mint

Cultivation methods and precautions of American mint

Temperature requirements for American mint

American mint likes warm environment and has strong cold resistance, so it can overwinter outdoors in winter. There is no need to keep warm or cool in all four seasons, just normal maintenance is enough. Unless you put the American mint in a cold storage at -30 to 40 degrees Celsius, the American mint will not die no matter how you keep it.

Light requirements for American mint

American mint likes plenty of sunlight and is slightly shade-tolerant. Potted American mint should be placed in a sunny place. Insufficient sunlight will cause the branches and leaves to grow too long and the stem nodes to become thinner. It cannot withstand external shocks and may fall over with a slight breeze. But it cannot be exposed to direct sunlight, and appropriate shade is needed in midsummer.

How to water American mint

American mint needs sufficient water to grow and has poor drought tolerance, so watering is very important. Water every 3 to 5 days during the growing season to keep the soil moist. Flowers in smaller pots are generally watered once every 2 days.

The growth of mint seedlings requires sufficient water. They can grow quickly only if they drink enough water, but water must not accumulate.

Fertilization method of American mint

American mint grows quickly and of course requires sufficient nutrients. It needs to be fertilized once every half a month during the growing season.

Topdressing in spring should be mainly nitrogen fertilizer to promote the growth of branches and leaves. Before flowering in late May, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be added to promote flowering, which can also enhance the plant's disease resistance and resist diseases and pests.

Precautions for the cultivation of American mint

American mint is also a kind of herb. It is resistant to pruning and the more it is pruned, the better it grows. It is necessary to pinch the top in time to control the height and promote the sprouting of new branches. Pruning should be done in May and June to slowly adjust the height and flowering period of the plant.

After American mint blooms, the remaining flowers will remain at the top of the branches. The branches should be cut off 5 cm from the ground to facilitate flowering next year.
