Early spring edamame planting time and method

Early spring edamame planting time and method

Early spring edamame refers to edamame varieties that are planted and harvested early in spring. They are usually characterized by early maturity, high yield and high quality, and are an important product in the spring vegetable market. Early spring edamame tastes delicious, is nutritious, and is rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals. Below, the editor will introduce the planting time and method of edamame in early spring. Let’s take a look.

1. Early spring edamame planting time

The planting time for early spring edamame is usually between early February and early March, but the specific time needs to be determined according to local climatic conditions. Due to the warm climate in the southern region, early spring edamame can be planted in early February. Due to the cold climate in the northern region, it is necessary to wait until early March when the temperature rises before planting.

2. Early spring edamame planting method

1. Variety selection

Choose early-maturing varieties that are hardy, compact, and have a short growing season. Common early-maturing varieties include "Spring Green" edamame, Taiwan 292, Tiefeng 29, etc.

2. Site selection and land preparation

Choose a soil that is sheltered from wind, has sufficient sunlight, is loose and has normal drainage and irrigation. Deeply plow the land, apply sufficient base fertilizer, and apply 2000-3000 kg of organic fertilizer and 25-30 kg of compound fertilizer per mu.

3. Seed treatment

Choose high-quality, disease- and insect-free edamame seeds for sowing. Before sowing, the seeds can be dried in the sun for 1 to 2 days to sterilize and activate seed activity. In order to improve the germination rate of seeds and prevent diseases and pests, appropriate amounts of pesticides can be used for seed treatment.

4. Planting seeds

In order to get edamame on the market earlier in early spring, it is recommended to adopt the method of covering the ground with film. Covering the soil can increase ground temperature, retain water and moisture, and is beneficial to seed germination. Before sowing, make ridges in the field in advance, because edamame is afraid of drought and waterlogging. Making ridges can not only prevent waterlogging, but also facilitate film covering and management. When sowing, the row spacing should be controlled at 30 to 40 cm, the plant spacing should be kept at about 15 cm, and 3-4 seeds should be placed in each hole. The sowing depth should be controlled at about 5 cm, not too deep, to facilitate early germination.

5. Field management

Apply 10 kg of urea per mu during the initial flowering period, and spray 0.2%-0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate during the pod-setting and grain-filling stage. Mainly control pests such as soybean borer, and spray insecticides regularly. Remove the top of the plant during its vigorous growth period to promote side branch growth and increase yield.

The above is an introduction to the planting time and method of early spring edamame. Early spring edamame refers to edamame varieties that are sown from February to April in spring and harvested in the early summer. The entire growth period is relatively short, generally about 80 days, and it tastes delicious and is rich in nutrients.
