Osmanthus, as a traditional famous flower in my country, is famous for its preference for warmth, humidity and sufficient light. It is not only the city flower of many cities south of the Yangtze River, such as Hangzhou, Guilin, and Huaihua, but also a favorite in the homes of many flower lovers. However, even so, the problem of dry and burnt tips of osmanthus leaves still occurs from time to time. Let’s learn together why the tips of osmanthus leaves become burnt. 1. Unsuitable temperature The optimal temperature range for osmanthus growth is 20-30 degrees. When the temperature exceeds 35 degrees or is below 10 degrees, the tips of osmanthus leaves are prone to dryness. 2. Insufficient air humidity Especially in the winter in the north and the hot and dry period in June, osmanthus needs higher air humidity. You can maintain appropriate humidity by spraying around the plants (avoid spraying directly on the leaves) or using a humidifier, small flower shed, etc. 3. Strong sunlight Especially in May and June in the north, accompanied by high temperatures and drought, although osmanthus loves sunshine, it needs proper shade at noon in summer to avoid direct sunlight. 4. Soil alkalinity is too high Osmanthus prefers slightly acidic soil. Excessive alkalinity in the soil will cause the soil to become compacted, affecting the absorption of potassium and other trace elements, and thus causing the tips to dry out. Therefore, during the maintenance process, the soil pH should be adjusted regularly, and organic fertilizer should be applied every year to maintain the activity of soil microorganisms. 5. Root respiration is blocked Osmanthus is a shallow-rooted plant. Long-term waterlogging or roots buried too deep may hinder root respiration. This can lead to problems such as root stagnation or seedling stunting. Therefore, you should choose soil with good air permeability and drainage, ensure proper soil dry-wet cycle, and avoid burying the plants too deep when planting to facilitate root breathing. 6. Disease problems In a poorly ventilated environment, osmanthus is susceptible to diseases such as leaf blight. Therefore, good ventilation should be maintained during daily maintenance, and old branches, diseased branches, weak branches and crossed branches at the bottom that affect ventilation should be pruned in time. In response to these reasons, corresponding measures can be taken to deal with them, such as reasonable watering, appropriate shading, maintaining a suitable temperature, improving soil conditions, reasonable fertilization, and prevention and control of diseases and pests, so as to promote the healthy growth of osmanthus.
