The legend of water lilies

It is said that a long time ago, there was a remote mountain village surrounded by a small river, where a girl lived.

One day, the river dried up. In order to get drinking water for her family, the girl ran around all day, but could only find very little water. One morning, the sky was foggy and the girl was walking along the river alone, feeling very sad. Suddenly, a voice came, "Your eyes are so beautiful." The moment she turned around, she saw a fish stuck in the mud in the river. The fish was very beautiful, with scales as lazy as the sky, and it had a pair of gentle eyes and a clear voice.

The fish told the girl that if she was willing to visit him every day, he would give her a jar of water. Of course, this was just an excuse for the fish to see the girl. So, the girl came to meet the fish every morning, and the fish gave the girl a jar of water every day. The people in the girl's family asked about the origin of the water, but the girl just smiled and did not answer.

The fish and the girl see each other across the water every day, but they can communicate with each other spiritually. On the third day, the girl found that she had fallen in love with the fish. The fish also hoped that the girl would be his wife, and the girl agreed. So the fish came out of the river and became husband and wife with the girl.

Later, when the people in the village found out, they thought that the fish had cast a spell on the girl, so they locked the girl up and killed the fish. The fish died in despair. The villagers threw the fish's body at the girl's feet. The girl fantasized that the fish would wake up, but the result was only disappointment. The girl held the fish's cold body and walked towards the river, where she eventually died. However, their children continued to reproduce in the river from generation to generation, and they are today's water lilies.
