How to take care of the newly bought lipstick flower

How to take care of the newly bought lipstick flower

1. Lighting

The lipstick plant likes light, but not strong light. It can tolerate semi-shade environment. Exposing it to direct sunlight for 2-3 hours a day is enough for the lipstick plant to grow and bloom. It is more suitable to be hung by the window indoors.

2. Temperature

The most suitable growth temperature for lipstick flower is 21-26℃. If the maintenance temperature is appropriate, it can bloom all year round. Provide appropriate shade and cooling in the summer and provide plenty of ventilation. Move the plants indoors for maintenance in the winter when the temperature is low. Ensure that the maintenance temperature is above 10°C and they can safely overwinter.

3. Watering

Do not water the lipstick spider plant too much, otherwise the plant will easily develop black stems, yellow leaves, and falling flower buds. It is best to feel the soil surface turn white, weigh the soil in the pot with your hand, and then water it when it feels noticeably lighter, which means "water when it is dry and water when it is wet."

4. Fertilization

In spring and autumn every year, you can gradually replace the large pot according to the growth of the lipstick spider plant. When changing the pot, bury sufficient base fertilizer (bean cake, bone meal, etc.) at the bottom of the pot. No topdressing is needed in the later stage. If the plant does not bloom, you can apply a small amount of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

5. Pests and diseases

Lipstick spider plants usually do not attract diseases and pests. If they get sick from insects, they are mostly infected. We should pay more attention to ventilation in our daily life, and spray carbendazim and flower protector once a month in late spring and summer to prevent it!

6. Cuttings

If you want to propagate, as long as your home is not too cold, you can cut off the top branches about 10 cm long and insert them into the potting soil. Make sure the substrate is slightly moist but not waterlogged. It will take root in about 30 days and can be transplanted into pots half a month after rooting.
