The legend of chrysanthemumThere is a statue of the Chrysanthemum Girl in Xingcheng Haikou. There is a Chrysanthemum Island more than ten nautical miles away from Haikou. The Chrysanthemum Girl is looking in the direction of the Chrysanthemum Island, like a sensible daughter looking at her parents in the distance. Legend has it that before there was Chrysanthemum Island, there lived the third prince of the Dragon King in the Bohai Sea. He was extremely vicious and not only caused trouble and harmed people, but he also ate a boy and girl every month and wanted a girl of seventeen or eighteen to be his wife every year. People had no way to deal with the Third Prince, so they had to move away to avoid the disaster. That year, a girl named Juhua took the initiative to propose to marry the third prince. When the third prince saw this girl with eyes like stars and cheeks like rosy clouds, he wanted to marry her immediately. However, the Third Prince was very shrewd. Before Juhua entered the palace, he asked the palace maids to search her body and take away anything that could cause danger. She was only allowed to enter naked and had to change clothes once she entered the palace. Chrysanthemum did exactly as she was told. When entering the bridal chamber to drink the wedding wine, the palace maid looked at the remains of previous brides on the wall of the palace and became worried about Juhua. But Juhua acted as if she saw nothing and continued to pour wine for the Third Prince with a smile. After a while, the third prince was so drunk that he lay unconscious on the bed. After the palace maid left, Juhua closed the door and killed the Third Prince. Afterwards, the Chrysanthemum Girl disguised herself, opened the door, followed the guests who came to congratulate her out of the Dragon Palace, walked north on the water, and when she reached the current location of Chrysanthemum Island, the sound of waves behind her was deafening. It turned out that the patrolling yaksha discovered that the Third Prince was dead, and he rushed after him with waves. Juhua thought that if she kept running, not only would she not be able to escape, but everything within 300 miles of the shore would also be swept into the sea. She made up her mind, and crashed into the reef and died. As soon as Chrysanthemum's body fell, there was a loud bang from the bottom of the sea, and it turned into an island, blocking the huge waves raised by Yaksha. On the morning after Juhua's death, people found a new island on the sea. In the spring of the following year, chrysanthemums bloomed on the island. From then on, the Third Prince was never seen doing evil again. Everyone then understood what had happened, so they named the island Juhua Island and erected a stone statue on the shore to commemorate him. The Legend of Chrysanthemum IIWhen Nuwa was 99 years old, her eyes suddenly turned red and she became blind. Fuxi remembered the stone lions that saved him and Nuwa when the sky collapsed. After the stone lion saved them, its body melted into ashes, but the remains it left behind - Qingfeng Ridge is still there. He thought the stone lion must have a way to cure Nuwa's eyes. So he burned three incense sticks facing Qingfeng Ridge, knelt down and prayed. The stone lion said that only the chrysanthemums in the Jade Queen's Garden could heal him. The Heavenly Palace is 180,000 miles away from Fuxi's home, and Fuxi is over 99 years old. How can he walk? So he ordered his son Youxiong to go. Youxiong was a filial son, so he went there immediately. He walked for 49 days and climbed the ladder for 49 days before he arrived at the South Gate of Heaven. The South Gate of Heaven is guarded by heavenly soldiers and generals, making it difficult to enter. He walked along the palace wall, trying to find a gap. He came to the north side of the Heavenly Palace and found a tall jade tree growing against the wall outside the palace. He climbed in through the tree. It was late autumn and only the chrysanthemums, which braved the wind and frost, were in full bloom, so he picked the largest flowers. Yang Erlang happened to see Youxiong when he was patrolling here, so he captured Youxiong and brought him to see the Jade Emperor. Upon hearing this, the Jade Emperor became furious and put Youxiong in prison. Later, the Jade Emperor's eldest daughter, Sister Lei, was moved by Youxiong's heroic behavior and filial piety and fell in love with this mortal youth. She eloped with Youxiong and went down to earth, taking Chrysanthemum with her. Upon hearing this, the Jade Emperor became even more furious and wanted to send people to capture Lei Jie and You Xiong. However, Tota-Bearing Heavenly King Li dissuaded him and asked the Jade Emperor to help Lei Jie and You Xiong get together. The punishment is to never be able to return to heaven again. He also gave Sister Lei some dowry, which consisted of four medicinal species: chrysanthemum, yam, Achyranthes bidentata, and Rehmannia glutinosa. Sister Lei started planting the four major Huai medicinal herbs, namely chrysanthemum, yam, Achyranthes bidentata and Rehmannia glutinosa, in the Qinhuai area and sold them everywhere. |
