The Flower Language of Cockscomb

The inflorescence of Cockscomb is red and flat, named after its shape which resembles a cockscomb, and it enjoys the reputation of "bird among flowers".

Cockscomb flowers grow in autumn, a bleak season. There is an old saying: "Autumn has always been a sad and lonely season." The hot summer has just passed, and the coolness instantly spreads across the world, making people feel depressed.

But cockscomb, this magical creature, blooms like fire, with fiery red color and clusters of flowers, so people give it the flower language of "true love forever".

The legend of cockscomb

According to legend, there was a centipede spirit living on a mountain near a certain village in ancient times. The spirit would often transform itself into a beautiful woman to seduce young men, then lure them into a cave on the mountain, where it would knock them unconscious and suck out their brains.

One day, a young man named Shuangxi in the village was fascinated by her and married her home. Shuangxi's family raised a big rooster. It saw the true appearance of the centipede monster, so it pounced on it and pecked at it. But Shuangxi didn't know the reason, and at the instigation of the centipede monster, he drove the rooster out of the house. The rooster ran to the mountain and never came back.

One day, the centipede demon tricked Shuangxi into a cave in the mountains. Just as she was about to suck Shuangxi's brain, a big rooster suddenly pounced on her and pecked at the centipede demon's head hard. The centipede monster was forced to reveal its true form and started fighting with the big rooster. Finally, the big rooster pecked it to death, but it was also covered with wounds and died later from the severe poisoning.

When Shuangxi woke up, he saw the corpses of a giant centipede and a rooster beside him, and then he suddenly realized what had happened. He felt very sad and held the big rooster in his arms, tears dropping on it.

Shuangxi later buried the rooster on the hillside. After a while, a small grass actually grew out from the place where the rooster was buried. Later, a flower that looked very similar to a rooster's comb bloomed. The whole plant looked like a rooster with its head raised, ready to crow. People believed that it was the big rooster of Shuangxi and named it "Cockscomb". This flower therefore symbolizes eternal life and immortality.
