Potted honeysuckle four seasons maintenance method

Potted honeysuckle four seasons maintenance method

Spring care of potted honeysuckle

In spring, the honeysuckle can be repotted before it sprouts. Generally, the plant can be repotted once every 2-3 years, and appropriate pruning and shape adjustment can be performed during the repotting. Honeysuckle has strong adaptability and is not demanding on soil. It is suitable to choose fertile and deep sandy soil containing humus.

Because the new branches that grow in spring are slender, soft, and messy, they affect the appearance. At this time, you need to cut off the dense, long and entangled branches, and you can also use wire to adjust them to maintain the original shape. During the growing period, pinching should also be done.

Sufficient sunlight should be ensured in spring. Water thoroughly once before germination, and then keep the soil in the pot moist.

Summer maintenance of potted honeysuckle

Honeysuckle is resistant to high temperatures and does not require shade in summer. However, high temperature and strong light can easily accelerate the evaporation of moisture in the potting soil, and the potting soil can easily dry out, so the bonsai should be moved to a semi-shaded place. No fertilizer is needed in hot weather.

Autumn maintenance of potted honeysuckle

In autumn, ensure that the potted honeysuckle has sufficient light and the soil is moist. It only needs extensive management and no fertilization is needed. When the leaves fall in late autumn, new purple-red leaves will grow between the leaf axils, which is very beautiful.

Winter maintenance of potted honeysuckle

Winter is the dormant period of honeysuckle. Honeysuckle is very cold-resistant and can safely survive the winter without much care. However, the bonsai has little soil and its roots are easily frozen, so it needs to be placed in an enclosed balcony and maintained at a temperature above zero degrees Celsius to keep the soil in the pot dry.

During the dormant period, the main branches of the honeysuckle potted plants can be reshaped and pruned. Depending on the growth conditions and shaping needs, generally 3-5 main branches can be retained, with 2-3 buds on each branch, and the other branches can all be cut off, so that it can take shape quickly.
