Half Lotus Flower: Sunshine, VitalityScutellaria barbata is also known as mountain whip, thin scutellaria, toothbrush grass, field grass, water scutellaria, narrow-leaved Han Xin grass, large-flowered purslane, etc. It is a plant of the Tubularales, Lamiaceae, and Scutellaria genus. The hotter the sun, the brighter it blooms; therefore, it symbolizes vitality. The legend of BanzhilianScutellaria barbata, also known as Han Xin grass, is often used to treat injuries from falls, vomiting blood, hemoptysis, abscesses, hemorrhoids and other diseases. How did the name "Han Xin grass" come from? According to legend, Han Xin, a founding general of the Han Dynasty, lost his father in his childhood and his mother in his youth. His family was poor and he made a living by selling fish. One day, when Han Xin was selling fish at the market, he was beaten up by a few scoundrels and was bedridden. His neighbor Aunt Zhao brought him food and took care of him. She also got some herb from the fields and boiled it into a soup for him to drink. Within a few days, he recovered his health. Later, Han Xin joined the army and became a general with outstanding military achievements. He cared for his soldiers very much. After each battle, there were many wounded soldiers. While visiting and comforting them, he sent people to the fields to collect the herbs that Aunt Zhao used to treat his wounds. After collecting them, they were distributed to various camps, and the injured soldiers were given soup in large pots to drink. The lightly injured recovered in three to five days, and the seriously injured recovered in ten days to half a month. The soldiers were very grateful to Han Xin. When everyone heard that Han Xin didn't know the name of this herb, they wanted to give it a name. Someone suggested calling it "Han Xin Grass". So the name "Han Xin Grass" became popular and has been passed down to this day. |
