How do gymnosperms reproduce? Common reproduction methods

Reproduction method of gymnosperms

The main method of reproduction of gymnosperms is seed reproduction. Usually the plant produces seeds through the processes of flowering and fruiting, and then reproduces. Seed reproduction belongs to the sexual reproduction method, which reproduces by pollination and mating of male and female to produce seeds. Therefore, most plants use this method of reproduction to reproduce offspring.

Common reproduction methods of gymnosperms

Gymnosperm seed propagation

1. When gymnosperms begin to reproduce, they will have the rudiments of flowers, called autumn flowers. They are unisexual and have no perianth. The male cones are relatively small and will produce pollen, which is spread by the wind and forms new seeds. The female cones are larger and their ovules are exposed. They can germinate through pollination and be fertilized by pollen tubes to form seeds.

2. The survival rate of gymnosperms using seeds for reproduction is extremely high because they are separated from the water environment at the time of fertilization. The male pollen is spread by wind and they survive in a dry and cold environment relying on the hard seed coat. The offspring are perfectly protected when they are formed.

3. Gymnosperms are a relatively primitive seed plant with a relatively long history of development. Their spores are very developed and have a decisive advantage. Most species are evergreen trees. During pollination, the pollen can reach the ovule directly, germinate above the center of the plant, and finally select the pollen tube.
