Sweet orange seedling planting method

Sweet orange seedling planting method

Sweet orange likes sunlight and is mostly found in places with sufficient oxygen. There are many places in our country that meet the conditions for growing sweet oranges, which are not only consumed within the region but also sold abroad. Therefore, to obtain better quality sweet oranges and increase sweet orange production, it is necessary to improve sweet orange planting technology and strengthen management. Let’s talk about the planting method of sweet orange seedlings .

1. Soil

Sweet orange trees grow best in loose, fertile, well-drained and breathable soil. When planting, you can prepare the soil with leaf mold, garden soil and some base fertilizer. This kind of soil has high fertility and is very suitable for the growth of sweet orange trees.

2. Lighting

The sweet orange tree is a sun-loving plant that requires plenty of light. It can be planted on a balcony or in a well-ventilated and well-lit place outdoors. When the sunlight is strong in summer, appropriate shade is needed to avoid affecting the normal growth of the sweet orange tree.

3. Temperature

Sweet orange trees are suitable for growing in warm places. The most suitable growth temperature for sweet orange trees in a year is 23-29℃, and the lowest growth temperature is 12.5℃. During the high temperatures in summer, shade and cooling are necessary, otherwise the fruit will stop growing. It also has poor cold resistance. When the temperature drops below -7℃, the whole plant will freeze to death, so you must take good warming measures in winter to allow it to survive the winter safely.

4. Watering

Sweet orange trees prefer a humid climate and are not drought-tolerant. Severe drought will stop the fruit from growing. Generally, water as soon as the soil is dry, and be sure to water thoroughly to keep the soil moist at all times. However, do not allow water to accumulate in the soil, otherwise it will cause leaves and fruits to fall, and even lead to root rot and death.

5. Fertilization

Sweet orange trees require more nutrients during the growing period, and some fertilizers need to be applied to supplement the nutrients in the soil. Generally, fertilization is mainly soil fertilization, combined with foliar fertilization. Young seedlings should be fertilized frequently and thinly, with nitrogen fertilizer as the main fertilizer, and some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied in combination, which will be more beneficial to the growth of sweet orange trees. Generally, fertilizer can be applied 5-6 times during the shoot growth period in spring, summer and autumn. For mature trees, fertilization only needs to be applied four times.

6. Pruning

Prune sparsely where branches and leaves are dense around the crown, heavily prune the top branches, and lightly prune the inner branches to ensure good light inside the crown and produce more fruits of good quality.

7. Pests and diseases

There are many diseases and pests that harm sweet orange trees, the most common of which are mites, scale insects, leaf miners, anthracnose, etc. Prevention and control should be based on the occurrence characteristics of various diseases and pests, combined with spraying pesticides . At the same time, spray the Tree Protector to keep warm and prevent frost, and prevent bacteria from replicating and infecting.
