Can it be grown in water?

Hosta can be grown in water! Hosta likes plenty of water and fertilizer, but requires good drainage. The hydroponic method is different from other plants, and the roots cannot be completely immersed in water. In actual operation, flower lovers have reported that the mortality rate of hydroponics is higher and the survival rate is not as high as that of soil cultivation.

Water culture method

Remove the hosta from the soil and shake off the dirt on the roots without damaging them.

Find a transparent glass bottle, wash it, and choose a piece of foam that fits the size of the bottle mouth so that it can better cover the bottle mouth.

Make a hole in the middle of the foam and plug it into the bottle mouth.

Place the roots of the hosta into the bottle along the hole in the foam and add some water. The function of the plastic foam is to fix the hosta so that its roots are less exposed to water.

Hydroponics Management

Change water regularly

The water should be changed every 3 to 4 days in summer and every 5 to 6 days in winter. It can be well water or river water. If it is tap water, it must be settled for 2 to 3 days before it can be used. Tap water contains alum, which has an inhibitory effect on plant growth.

Fertilization in moderation

For hydroponic hostas, the water needs to be changed frequently and fertilizers should be applied regularly. Generally, fertilizer should be applied every two times the water is changed. Sprinkle some liquid fertilizer in the water and use granular fertilizer as little as possible. This way, fragrant flowers will bloom in the summer!

The right way to nourish your roots

By constantly changing the water, the soil on the roots will gradually become less and new roots will continue to grow. At this time, you should pay more attention to maintenance. If the bottle is spacious enough, you can raise a few small fish, which can chew on the rotten roots and purify the water. For flowers in smaller bottles, you can only remove the rotten roots yourself regularly!
