How to prolong the flowering period of chrysanthemums

How to prolong the flowering period of chrysanthemums

1. Rizhao

Generally we are talking about autumn chrysanthemums, which bloom between October and December, and they need a short period of daylight. If we provide them with relatively short days, their flowering time will be advanced. Therefore, we should cover them to prevent them from being exposed to sunlight at any time, and only allow them to receive eight hours of light a day. If this operation is continued for more than two months, they will bloom.

The best time to block out light is in the morning and evening. It is feasible to use black cloth or black plastic bag to block out light, but you need to pay attention that the upper part must be black and not light-permeable. There is no need to be too strict about the lower part. When blocking out light, you need to lower the temperature and place it in a cool area, paying attention to ventilation.

2. Temperature

Influencing its flowering through temperature is also a way, because temperature has a relatively large impact on its growth. So you can completely rely on it to extend the flowering period. We understand that the more suitable temperature is between 18 and 21 degrees, and the differentiation of flower buds is around 15 degrees. After we wait for the flower buds to grow and the colors to appear, we can control the temperature between zero and 5 degrees, so that the flowering period can be extended by about one month.

3. Pinching

Pinching is another method. This is mainly to prevent the branches from growing blindly, and it is good for branching. It will be more painful when flowering. If we pinch off the tips in late August or early September, it will bloom two months later. If we pinch off the tips earlier, it will bloom earlier. Generally, the flowering period of the same species will be extended by about ten days after pinching.
