How to make bonsai of papaya begonia

1. Choose pot and soil

When making papaya begonia bonsai, it is generally more appropriate to choose some purple clay pots. The shape of the pots can be round, square, or rectangular. It is best if the color of the pot contrasts with the color of the flowers. Papaya begonia likes fertilizer and grows very fast, so the pot it is used in should not be too small or too shallow. In addition, its requirements for soil and water are not particularly high, and it is best suited to growing in fertile and loose sandy loam.

2. Proper breeding

It can be propagated by grafting, division, root cuttings or layering. For grafting, you can generally choose branch grafting or bud grafting. Branch grafting is usually carried out from February to March, and bud grafting is usually carried out from August to September. Root cuttings are best done in February or March. Select roots that are about 1 cm long and 7 to 10 cm long and insert them into the soil at more than half its height. This way the survival rate will be very high. Division and layering are also suitable to be carried out in spring, which makes it easier for the plants to survive.

3. Modeling

When shaping it, it is generally more appropriate to do so between the time when the leaves fall in winter and before they sprout in spring. By the time it rains more, the new branches will have grown to a more mature state and will be more elastic, making them more suitable for pruning and tying. Processing can begin when the seedlings are born in 2 to 3 years. At this time, the plasticity is particularly great and the operation is relatively easy. It is generally better to mix some brown wire and metal wire together. The main branches and large branches need to be tied using the coiling method. It is better to trim the branches and leaves more naturally, and the pruning should not be too regular. The general shapes can be made into slanted trunk, straight trunk, double trunk and so on.

3. Later maintenance

After making the bonsai, it generally needs to be placed in a place with sufficient sunlight and good ventilation. If there is not enough light, its growth will be poor and the color of the flowers will not be bright enough. There is no need to provide shade in the summer. It is also relatively cold-resistant. In winter, you can place it in the pot outdoors in a windproof, sunny place, or you can place it indoors in a well-lit area to spend the winter.
