How to make a bonsai of pomegranate flowers

Soil requirements

The roots of potted plants have a smaller range of activity and only move within the pot, so the potting soil must be rich in nutrients and have good water retention, drainage, and aeration properties. The simplest preparation method: use ordinary roadside soil, add fermented animal manure, vermiculite or slag, and wood ash, stir evenly, dry in the sun for a while, and then screen out larger soil lumps.

Production and Modeling

Variety selection

There are not many varieties of pomegranates that can be made into bonsai. The ones that are generally chosen are Dahongpao, Sanbai pomegranate, and rock sugar frozen pomegranate. Pomegranates are generally made into tree stump bonsai. If conditions permit, you can directly purchase perennial wild tree stumps, or purchase sturdy pomegranate seedlings and slowly cultivate them into slanting-trunk or lying-trunk plants.

modeling

Slanted trunk style: The pomegranate trunk is tilted to one side, the branches and leaves are distributed naturally and orderly, the tree shape is balanced and dynamic, and it is very poetic.

Lying trunk style: The main part of the pomegranate trunk lies horizontally on the surface of the pot, like a tree struck by lightning and blown down by wind. The tree shape is old and strange, full of wild interest.

Plastic surgery and maintenance

Integer

The shaping of pomegranate bonsai needs to consider the overall shape, as well as flowering and fruiting. For branches that sprout in spring and autumn, you can use the twisting method to fix the desired shape. New side buds can be cut off from the base, and the long branches can be shaped by multiple pinching methods. At the same time, encourage the early formation of full and plump side buds between the leaf axils.

Maintenance

When the new shoots grow to 10-15cm, pinch them off to promote flowering. When many adventitious buds grow on the main trunk and branches, it will affect the shape and ventilation and should be wiped off in time.

In order to correct the dwarfing of the plants, you can spray paclobutrazol solution during the growth period of new shoots to control the growth of the plants.
