Flower Pot Selection

Material: Forsythia bonsai usually choose a medium-dark purple clay pot or glazed pottery pot.

Shape: The type of flowerpot you choose is usually determined by the shape of the forsythia. Generally, round or square shapes are sufficient. For cliff-style potted plants, you can choose a deep dry tube pot to highlight the beauty of the roots.

Flower pot color: The color of the flower pot should be able to set off the yellow flowers of the forsythia, and generally choose dark blue, dark black, or purple.

Bonsai shape

The branches of Forsythia jasmine hang down naturally, and its roots are very distinctive, making it suitable for being processed into weeping branch bonsai and root-raising bonsai, and the two are usually combined. The roots are intertwined and exposed, the main trunk becomes a lying trunk or a curved trunk, the branches and leaves are drooping, and the style is unique.

Pruning methods

After digging up the forsythia, cut off some of the branches to prevent too many branches from damaging the roots and causing the plant to die, but don't cut them too short.

After planting, transplant the plant after 1/3 of its roots are exposed. After transplanting, place it in a cool place, avoid direct sunlight, and do not water it. Shape it after it takes root.

Pruning is mainly to control the growth of forsythia branches. Too long will affect the overall shape of the plant.

Repotting Tips

Forsythia should be repotted once every two years, in spring or autumn. When repotting, combine root pruning with trimming dead roots or excessively long roots to promote the development of fibrous roots. When repotting, you can also place cake fertilizer at the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer.

Some forsythias need to be lifted up. When planting, lift the plant appropriately and cover the roots with soil. Gradually water it and the roots will be exposed.
