Why is the Kalanchoe so lush but not blooming?

Why is the Kalanchoe so lush but not blooming?

1. Leggy

Cause: There are many possible reasons why plants may grow too tall. One is that pruning is not done in time, and pinching and topping are not done. The other is that there is too much nitrogen fertilizer and insufficient phosphorus and potassium fertilizer.

Solution: The distance between leaves of overgrown plants is often long. In this case, major pruning is required to cut off all the overgrown branches and leaves, generally the upper third. At the same time, when it grows again, pay attention to pinching and topping.

2. Too much light

Reason: Kalanchoe has strict requirements on light exposure time, which is generally maintained at 8 hours. Insufficient light will cause the Kalanchoe to grow poorly, while too much light will affect the formation of flower buds.

Solution: Allow the Kalanchoe to receive 8 hours of sunlight, then place it in semi-shade. It should be noted that it is not suitable to be exposed to sunlight when it is strong at noon, so generally 4 hours in the morning and evening are enough.

3. Insufficient nutrients

Cause: Insufficient fertilization, mainly due to lack of phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer. These two elements are beneficial to plant flowering and improving resistance.

Solution: In addition to liquid fertilizer once every two weeks, it is also necessary to apply potassium dihydrogen phosphate 1-2 times after the flower buds form in November. This will promote flowering, make the flowers larger and more colorful, and also prolong the flowering period.

4. Poor soil quality

Reason: Long-term watering and fertilizing of the potting soil can easily lead to compaction. Once the soil is compacted, water and fertilizer are difficult to reach the roots, and it is also easy to breed diseases.

Solution: Repot the Kalanchoe every year and loosen the soil regularly. Make sure the soil is loose and cut off rotten roots when repotting.
