Why do camellia leaves become dry and fall off?

Why do camellia leaves become dry and fall off?

1. Excessive watering

Cause: Excessive watering causes water accumulation, resulting in poor breathing of the roots, which can cause the camellia leaves to dry out and fall off.

Solution: Pour out the standing water in the pot and check the roots. Carefully move the plant out and check whether the roots have rotted due to waterlogging. If this is the case, the roots need to be pruned. In addition, do not water too much during normal times, just keep the plant moist.

2. Apply concentrated fertilizer

Reason: Concentrated fertilizers can burn the roots and also cause the leaves of the plant to fall off.

Solution: Remove the plant from the pot and wash the roots with clean water. In addition, check the root damage and cut off any rotten roots in time. After washing, replant with clean, sterilized soil and reduce the amount of fertilizer.

3. Too much light

Reason: Too much or too strong light can burn the leaves, causing them to dry out and fall off.

Solution: Shade the plant, preferably move it to a semi-shaded place with good ventilation. The daily exposure time should not exceed 5 hours, and it is best to do it in the early morning to avoid the scorching sun at midday.

4. Pests and diseases

Cause: There are many types of diseases and pests. Generally, anthracnose will cause camellia leaves to dry, harden and fall off.

Solution: The disease period is mostly from June to July. In addition to the leaves becoming dry and falling off, there are also some spots. Anthracnose should be controlled with designated pesticides. At the same time, the plant should be placed in a moist and ventilated environment, and certain fertilizers should be added to improve its resistance.
