Cultivation methods and precautions of Dracaena fragrans

Cultivation methods and precautions of Dracaena fragrans

Dracaena is an evergreen tree . Many friends will plant some and place them in their homes, living rooms, etc. It also has a high ornamental value. Its trunk is very thick, sword-shaped, green and shiny, and full of vitality. Let’s talk about the cultivation methods and precautions of Dracaena.

1. Lighting conditions

Dracaena fragrans likes plenty of sunlight, and the most suitable growth temperature is between 20 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius. Be careful to avoid exposure to continuous strong sunlight to prevent leaf burn.

2. Temperature and humidity

Dracaena fragrans has high requirements for temperature and humidity. It adapts to the temperature range of 25 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius and needs to maintain high humidity. You can increase the humidity of the air by spraying the leaves with water regularly, or by placing the pot in an area with high humidity, such as the kitchen or bathroom.

3. Watering method

Dracaena fragrans is not drought-tolerant, but its roots cannot be soaked in water for a long time either. Generally speaking, watering once a week is sufficient. Water when the soil surface feels dry. Make sure moisture is able to penetrate throughout the soil, but don't overwater, which can cause root rot.

4. Soil selection

Dracaena fragrans likes loose soil rich in organic matter. You can use a soil mix that contains leaf mold, horticultural sand, and well-rotted compost. Organic fertilizers can be applied regularly to provide nutrients as the plants grow.

5. Pruning and pruning

Pruning helps the plant maintain its shape and strength and encourages new growth. Pruning can be done in spring and summer to trim away dead, diseased, or overgrown areas. Pruning tools should be kept clean, sharp, and sterilized to prevent the spread of germs.

6. Pest and disease control

Dracaena fragrans is relatively resistant to diseases and pests, but prevention is still necessary. Common pests and diseases include red spider mites, scale insects and leaf moths. Check the underside of leaves regularly for spider webs and spray with an appropriate insecticide . At the same time, pay attention to keeping the plants well ventilated to prevent the growth of pathogens.

7. Reproduction method

Dracaena fragrans can be propagated by cuttings or divisions. Cuttings are made by inserting the stem segments into a moist rooting agent and then placing them in a warm and bright place. After new roots grow, they can be transplanted into pots. Division is the process of separating a mature plant from its roots and replanting it in new potting soil.

8. Notes

(1) Avoid exposing the Dracaena fragrans to cold air circulation to avoid affecting its growth.

(2) Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. You can use your finger to detect soil moisture and water only when the soil surface is dry.

(3) Check the leaves of the Dracaena regularly. If pests or diseases are found, take appropriate measures to prevent and control them immediately.

(4) Avoid frequently moving Dracaena fragrans. They usually need some time to adapt to the new growing environment.

(5) Dracaena fragrans can improve indoor air quality to a certain extent, but it will still have an impact if you are exposed to high concentrations of harmful gases for a long time.
