Petunia cultivation methods and precautions

Petunia cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

When growing petunias, you should choose loose and well-drained sandy loam. Because it is afraid of water, the drainage must be good to avoid root rot.

2. Watering

Water the plants in moderation, not too much or too little. Generally, when the temperature is high in summer, you should maintain sufficient moisture and water it in time, but make sure there is no water accumulation in the potting soil. When it rains a lot, drainage measures must be taken to prevent water accumulation and root rot. If there is too much rain during the flowering period, the flower color will become dull.

3. Temperature and light

The suitable temperature for petunia growth is 13-18℃. In winter, the temperature should be controlled at 4-10℃. If the temperature is too low, it will stop growing. Whether planted in the ground or in a pot, it is necessary to maintain sufficient sunlight. If there is insufficient sunlight, the number of flowers will decrease and the quality of the flowers will be very poor. It is best to give it 12 hours of light every day.

4. Timely pruning

It is a vine, so it is best to prepare a support, such as a pole inserted into the pot so that it can grow around it. It is also necessary to prune appropriately. When it grows to about 7 leaves, the top should be pinched off to make the flowers bloom more and bigger.

5. Notes

Petunia is prone to aphids. Once you discover them, do not spray them with cypermethrin to avoid drug damage that may hinder their normal growth.
