How to remedy aloe vera root rot?

Aloe vera has a compact plant shape, thick leaves and strong ornamental value. It is a very common type of potted green plant in homes. However, many people do not understand the habits of aloe vera and blindly water and fertilize during the cultivation process, so root rot often occurs. So how to remedy aloe vera root rot? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Root treatment

First, clean the soil around the roots of the aloe vera so that you can better observe and deal with root rot. Then use a special knife to completely remove the rotten part of the root. Be careful to make sure the cut is smooth to avoid causing new decay.

2. Dry the wound

Place the treated aloe vera in a cool and ventilated place to allow the wound to heal naturally. If conditions permit, you can also use fungicides such as mancozeb and potassium permanganate to soak the roots of aloe vera to achieve a better bactericidal effect. This process takes about 3-5 days, and do not water during this period.

3. Choose new soil

Aloe vera prefers neutral and loose soil that is well permeable, breathable and not prone to compaction. Generally, you can prepare nutrient soil yourself. The composition of nutrient soil is humus, garden soil and river sand, with a ratio of 2:2:1.

4. Repot

Repot the aloe, being careful not to bury it too deep; just enough to cover the taproot so the roots can breathe freely.

5. Seedling management

After planting, it has a short seedling recovery period, so it is not recommended to water it with a lot of water immediately. You can spray some water to keep the soil moist, and then water it thoroughly again after 3-5 days of seedling recovery. Then place the aloe vera in an environment with scattered light, and make sure it has good ventilation. Basically, its roots will grow back in a week.

In general, the most direct remedy for aloe vera root rot is to remove the rotten roots and then repot the plant. In the future maintenance process, pay attention to proper watering and fertilization, avoid excessive moisture in the soil, and regularly check the health of the plants. Basically, the aloe vera will be able to quickly grow roots all over the pot, and it will be completely saved at this time.
